Safari on macOS Sequoia added a new feature called Video Viewer. You press ⌘ ⇧ R to activate it when you’re viewing a web page that has video playing like YouTube, just like how you can activate Reader mode for articles. There’s also a menu item under View if you want to use the pointer.
This feature came in handy last weekend while I was witnessing one of the most epic Formula 1 races of the calendar year where the GOAT, Max Verstappen, had one of the greatest drives of all time finishing P1 all the way from P17 at Interlagos, Brazil. I use FanCode to watch F1 here in India. As the race got over, I was itching to check the news and memes posted in r/formula1 and r/formuladank.
I snapped the FanCode window to the left and Reddit window to the right. But FanCode’s video player wasn’t behaving responsively and I was only seeing the left half of the video. So, I activated video viewer—problem solved:
This also has the added benefit that if you switch tabs or applications, Safari will enable picture-in-picture mode and float the video to the side.
I got to know about this feature from a recent Snazzy Labs video. You should check out his video on all the cool new things in macOS Sequoia, it’s totally worth a watch:
